International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code)
The ISPS Code became mandatory on the 1st July 2004. The objective of the code is to provide an international framework that enables co-operation between governments, local agencies, shipping and port facilities, to detect security threats and take preventative measures.
One of the implications of the code is that all vessels of 500GT and greater on international voyages must provide the port facility security officer (PFSO) at the arrival port, at least 24 hours in advance, a completed proforma detailing the security status of the vessel and the last ten ports of call, stating their security levels at these ports.
To do this Masters (or their Agents) must complete and submit a "Ship Pre-Arrival Information Proforma". A copy of this form can be downloaded by right clicking on the link below and selecting 'Save Target As'.
Ship Pre-Arrival Information Pro-Forma
Alternatively a copy can be obtained on request from Medway Navigation Service or the vessel’s agent.
The completed form must be returned to the appropriate PFSO of the port facility the vessel will be visiting within the River Medway and the Swale.
Further to this, Medway Navigation Service must be in receipt of this information for the vessel to be allowed entry into the areas under their jurisdiction:
Email to (preferred route);
Fax to Medway Navigation Service (01795 666596);
Telex to Medway Navigation Service (96435).
